Welcome to the Paddling in the Shadow of Somoni Expedition website.

Ismoil Somoni is the highest peak, 7,495m, in the Pamir Mountain Range in Tajikistan, Central Asia.  The Pamirs are regarded as ‘The Roof of the World’ since explorers from Europe first started travelling East along the Silk Road to China.

With 90% of Tajikistan covered in Mountains, this seems to make the ideal location for expedition white water kayaking.  Our mission is to head into the hills and explore some of the major drainages.  We are expecting multiple days on the river, hard work to reach the top, culturally rich landscape and unforeseen adventures.

This website will give you a little more detail about Tajikistan and the team, it will update you as to the progress of the expeditions and provide information for the week long lecture tour we have planned on our return.

Thanks for stopping by, Chris.
